August 2018 Meeting

Thank you to our Guest Speaker, Erin Dollar with Cotton and Flax, that has shared her path on how she became a textile designer.  She is a fabric designer for Robert Kaufman.  Her first fabric line, Arroyo, is in stores now!  Her new Fabric line, Balboa, will be shipping to stores starting in November!  Both lines are a linen cotton blend.  You can follow her on instagram  at @cottonandflax. Block Lotto Demonstration– One of our newest members won this last month’s English paper piecing blocks.  Next block lotto is paper piecing a bookshelf! Can’t wait to see how it turns out!

Holiday Party– Mark your calendars:  December 9th, 2018 at Julie’s House.  We will spend the afternoon with a potluck, fun sewing project, and holiday cheer. We are looking for someone to help with the sewing project!

Quilt Con Charity Quilt– All the kits have gone out to members to sew and finished blocks have been coming in—the remainder of blocks are due at the September meeting.  Instructions are on the website.  We plan to hold Special Sew-in Days on 10/20 and 10/21 from 11-4 pm at Batty Lady to lay out the quilt and put the top together.  Join the fun, all members welcome.

Member De-stash Night– Any members interested in reducing their stash will have an opportunity to sell at our September 27 meeting.  The De-stash event will take place at the end of the meeting from 8-9 pm for a small fee: $5 for half a table, $10 for full table.  Please send an email to ocmodernquiltguild@gmail.com if you are interested.  Space is limited!

Quarterly Challenge– Artful September Challenge is due at the September meeting. Please bring all your entries. For November we will hold our annual children’s charity quilt based off a children’s book.  Each quilt and book donated with go to a child or teen at Orangewood Home for Children.

Demonstration Ideas– We are reaching out to our members who know techniques or methods that they would be willing to share with fellow guild members.  If you could provide a demo at one of our meetings please let Karen or Mary Anne know or email the guild if you are interested.

Board Spots and Volunteers for 2019– With the end of the year approaching we will be reaching out to all of you to see how you might be interested in volunteering for next year.  We’ll review committee and board positions and what is involved with each.  Please consider one of the many opportunities.

Budget Committee– We will be preparing a draft budget for calendar year 2019 for our Guild during October.  This is a 1-2 hour commitment for any member that would like to participate.  The budget meeting will be held 10/15 at 6:30 pm.  Please let the Guild know if you are interested in being a part of this committee.

Next Sew In– We don’t have a Sew In scheduled for September due to Labor Day Conflict.  Next Sew-in October 7thfrom 1-5 pm, November 4th from 1-5 pm both at our usual location all up the hill from meeting room.

Next Meeting– September 27th, 2018 at 6:30 pm
