Three times per year OCMQG challenges its members to create a quilt focused on a specified theme or element of modern design. Based on votes by the membership, three quilts are awarded a prize ribbon and gift card.

Once a year we hold a challenge where all the quilts entered are donated to a non-profit organization in Orange County, California.

Current Challenge – August 2021

We have had a lot of exposure to improv this year with lectures and workshops- David Owen Hastings, Cindy Grisdela, Amy Friend, and more. Use your inspiration to participate in our August challenge. Quilts must be completed with quilting and bound. Quilts must measure no less than 18″ per side. Three prizes will be awarded based on member voting – Best Improv Quilt, Best Modern Quilt, and Members’ Choice. The dates to remember are submission open July 29 until August 13. There will be an online form and you will need photos (by phone are great). The voting will be August 16 right up till our meeting on August 26. Be part of the fun. Let us see what you can do. Improv is such a great brain puzzle!
