It’s true, we decided to add a signature cocktail for our Quiltcon Cocktail Hour on Friday, February 19 at 6:30 pm. Of course, you don’t have to drink and certainly, this is a zoom meetup, NO driving. Please join us just to say hello to some familiar and hopefully some new faces to share what is going on these days. We can share excitement about Quiltcon or anything else that you might want to talk about. We have learned we are social animals and need contact. If you have not received the zoom link in your email, please reach out at email@example.com. We welcome those from other guilds or anyone interested in saying hi! (Please do have an identifying name in your zoom sign on.)
In this short sweet month we will pack in all the usual fun. Our Sunday Sewcial by Zoom is this Sunday, February 14 from 10 am to 3 pm. Please show us what you have been up to at our 1 pm Show and Tell. Our Guild meeting will be February 25, the usual, last Thursday of the month at 6:30 pm. Between those two dates, many of our members will be enjoying Quiltcon Together in the comfort of their sweatpants. We will share notes at our Guild meeting but we may also have a Quiltcon weekend meetup. Keep an eye out in your email.
Our next Quarterly Challenge has been announced. Our theme is Alternate Gridwork as presented by our January speaker, Amy Friend. Submissions begin March 25 and close April 16. Winners will be announced at our April meeting. The minimum size is 18″ on one side. You can do this! There is plenty of time. Our Challenges are always so interesting and full of amazing work. Please don’t hesitate to participate.
Please continue to let us know how we can be the best guild for you. Check out our events page for upcoming workshops. 2021 is full of promise!
Forgive me for using my own quilt for this illustration- @snailsews
We enjoyed a great lecture from Amy Friend. Check out her work at her website https://duringquiettime.com/ . She is also offering us a discount on purchases for a limited time, please reach out if you don’t see it in the email. Now you can be inspired to make something for our spring challenge based on her talk, Alternate grids.
Great news on finances, OCMQG merchandise, workshops and more. So glad that so many of you made it to this meeting. It makes a difference. I will be posting additional information about workshops in the next post. You should also have more detailed minutes in your email.
Our generous guild was able to donate 32 bags of toiletries to Orangewood after our December Driveway meetup. I understand the staff at Orangewood was so surprised and grateful. We also donated 23 book quilts! Other quilts were also donated this year including a drive for baby quilts. We hope to keep this generosity going in 2021. We have opportunities to make Charity quilts, quilt already made tops, continue to collect toiletries and more. Special thanks to Sheri and Diane for all the hard work they put into coordinating these projects. We couldn’t have done it without you!
We made it to 2021! Already this Sunday, January 10 is our first Sewcial. It is from 10:00 am to 3:00 pm. Zoom information has been sent to your email. If you have any questions, please reach out at firstname.lastname@example.org.

Email email@example.com if you would like a spot at the Amy Friend workshop on March 7, 2021. The cost for members is just $60. (Not open at this time for non members, check at beginning of February or contact us.) It is a day long virtual workshop. Her website is http://www.duringquiettime.com.
“I love designing paper pieced curves. In this workshop, I will lead you through a series of exercises where you will design 6 paper pieced blocks, each with a different type of curve. Because you will be drawing your own blocks, everyone’s finished piece will be unique! We will also learn about modern quilt layouts that include negative space and alternate grid work. Using our paper pieced curves, negative space and alternate gridwork, we’ll each create an 18″ mini quilt or pillow cover. “
Those that were able to make it to our December swap meet really enjoyed catching up. There were raffle items, block lotto exchanges, our toiletries drive for Orangewood, masks by Dawn and a look at our fantastic Quiltcon at Home quilt for 2021. It made us all hopeful for the coming year. So many wonderful quilty friends! Our next swap meet up will probably be in the Spring.
